Nathan Sawaya is an artist that works in a very interesting medium.
He makes sculptures out of Lego blocks. His work is on exhibit right now in the front gallery of the Forrest Lawn Museum in Glendale.
The show titled "The Art of the Brick" consists of about three dozen sculptures made entirely of Lego bricks. many of the pieces are figurative works exposing the inside of bodies. A white life sized figure opening it's chest to reveal a red heart. One of the largest is a reproduction of Mount Rushmore made entirely of grey Lego bricks. Who knew they even make grey Lego?
On the walls of the gallery are portraits made in Lego. These were some of my favorite pieces in the show. There are also pieces geared to children like a baseball and bat and a large castle surrounded by a moat.
Nathan Sawaya is a New York based artist whose works have been displayed both nationally and internationally.
