One of the world's best yodelers has died. Slim Whitman died today at age 89 from heart failure. Mr. Whitman a country and western singer/song writer was know for his falsetto and yodel sold over 120 million records in his 40 year career.
Born in Tampa, FL Whitman's real name was Otis. He was a self taught left handed guitarist. He was naturally right handed but because of an accident while working in a ship yard he played lefty. His career started after he left the Navy at the end of World War II. His first hit was "Rose Marie". Whitman was extremely popular in England much more so than in the US.
Whitman's main claim to fame in the US was his commercials for his record "All My Best" that sold 1.5 million copies.
