It was 57 years ago today Disneyland opened its gate. The opening day was considered a disaster. It
was such a disaster Walt Disney and his cronies referred to it as “Black Sunday”
for many years and on the books they claim it opened the next day. Imagine that
Walt Disney lied!
The opening problems were many. There was a huge traffic jam,
a gas leak, some malfunctioning rides and attractions all happening on an
extremely hot Sunday afternoon.
Disneyland was a very costly venture and it took years for it to pay
itself off. So on July 17, 1955 Disney’s
dream was not the happiest place on earth.
