Exene Cervenka may have Jumped the Shark

1980's Los Angeles punk rock icon Exene Cervenka front woman of the band X may just have lost her mind. Cervenka is claiming that the Santa Barbara shooting this May was a hoax as well as the Newtown, CT school shooting. She claims that these have all been elaborate hoaxes perpetrated by anti-gun activists. She also has her doubts about the September 11th attacks. Cervenka wh has move to Texas as she feels more at home there with her "liberal" views may have become the punk rock Victoria Jackson. Exene's Twitter messages go on and on and on with her new "liberal" views. 
Maybe Exene might want to relax and quiet down or she may soon start to see her record sales go down. 

Kate Bush CBE

Today singer Kate Bush received an honor from the Queen. Her majesty bestowed the honor of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire on Kate Bush. The order is the second highest honor in the British Empire. The only honor higher would be to be made a Dame, the female equivalent of a Lord.
Kate Bush, age 54, came to fame at the age of 19 when her song "Wruthering Heights" was number one on the British music charts for four weeks. She was the first woman to have a self written number hit in the UK. Bush's 40 year career has produced 10 albums and 3 Grammy award nominations.

19 Years Ago

I was sitting in my kitchen listening to KUSF drinking coffee with my roommates in San Francisco when we heard the announcement the Kurt Cobain had been found dead. The three of us just sat quite for a bit. It was a wow moment. Something from Nevermind started playing. When someone your age dies it hits and when it is someone like Kurt Cobain my generation was hit hard. Kurt Cobain said a lot of things we were thinking and in a way that we could relate to.
A couple of hours later I walked around the corner to Steffan Chirazi's house. His then wife Deanna Ashley from Frightwig let me in. We went out to the terrace and talked. Steffan had just recently done an interview with Kurt Cobain. It turned out to be Cobain's last proper interview. Their phone was ringing off the hook. It was a sad day.
It is so hard to think that this was 19 years ago. It seems like yesterday. I whenever hear a Nirvana song I think of that day.

So Not Punk Rock!

Patti Smith, the grandmother of punk is back on the road and she is making some money too! Tickets to her shows in Los Angeles and San Diego start at $59. That is for the back of the house she is playing in. This is not punk rock this is big business! Punk rock is a bar or a club not a huge theater with corporate rock prices. Punk rock is DIY. Patti Smith is punk rock no more. So sad to see one of the pioneers selling out like this. Sure artists deserve to be paid for their work but being paid and being PAID are two different things. The "Rock and Roll Nigger" is now a big business.

Frightwig, Assume the Position!

"Faster, Frightwig Kill Kill"; do you have that record? If you don't you should. Vinyl copies are really hard to find but there is a CD called "Wild Women Never Die". Both "Cat Farm Faboo" their first record and "Fast, Frightwig Kill Kill" are on it. If you don't know Frightwig you don't truly rock.
Frightwig has had a varied line up over the years but for my money it will always be Deanna , Mia, and Cecilia. There were lots of other women rockers members of Frightwig; lots! Frightwig is a woman's punk band from San Francisco they are not a Girl or a Grrl Band they are a hard ass punk rock band; so fuck you.
In the 1980's there was a place in San Francisco called The Farm. This is where Frightwig got their start along with bands like The Descendants and Redd Cross. They played around San Francisco, New York, Europe and in some disastrous US tours. Rocker women came out in droves to see Frightwig inspiring scores of women to feel they too could start their own bands. Courtney Love stole their look for Hole but honestly did give them credit. Grrl Bands almost always credit Frightwig as an influence.
Frightwig did have men on stage. The men on stage in Frightwig shows were just meat. The women were in charge and the men knew and loved it. Men (yes, I am one of them) are Frightwig's play things.
The women of Frightwig have lived full and amazing lives outside of Frightwig; marriages, children, Witchcraft they have done it all. These women are broads and proud of it. They will mess you up if they have to. Musically Frightwig is straight up punk rock. Guitars, drums, bass and a wailing voice is all a punk rock band needs and Frightwig has them all.

This fall Frightwig is coming back again. They are still pissed and they still rock.

Courtney Love has a Birthday

48 stormy years ago Courtney Love was born. Yup she is 48 years old. What did Courtney get for her birthday? Bad press. It has been reported on this her special day that her ex-personal assistant is suing her unpaid wages. Jessica Labrie worked for Courtney for about a year and claims she wasn't paid and was asked to do unethical things. Um you took a job with Courtney Love Jessica did you think it was going to be a bed of roses? Did she not know who Courtney Love is? The job of Courtney's assistant should be a pre-paid gig because lets face it she is not known for her stability and reliability.
Courtney Love actress/stripper/widow/rocker is a piece of work and likes it that way. It seems to know Courtney Love is to sue her. Universally loved and hated at the same time Courtney is a polarizing figure to say the least. She has been critically acclaimed as an actress and musician as well as being accused of murder and fraud. Her 1994 release "Live Through This" was one of the biggest selling records of the 90's and may have been the high point in her career. Don't count her out though. Courtney always has another trick up her sleeve.

Axl Rose's Jewels

Guns N' Roses is on tour in France and it isn't as pretty as it once was. After a post show party in Paris Axl Rose discovered he had been robbed. What was missing? Well, it seems about $200,000 worth of jewelry. Axl apparently travels with diamond and gold necklaces. The theft apparently put him in a bad mood. Has no one ever explained the concept of copies to Axl? French police eventually found his jewels and the model who had them. The model had been attendance at the party when the theft occurred. She claimed she didn't know how she ended up with them. The classic Lindsay Lohan defence. The hasn't been the happiest of European tours for Guns N' Roses. In England they were pelted with pint glasses and coins. Sweet child of mine the times are tough for Axl.
