Hipsters are so hip. Has Bingo replaced Kickball and Roller Derby as the new hot hot hot thing? It seems it might just be the new hipster favorite. Of course drag queens have been playing it for years. Drag queens always seem to set the hipster trends. If it weren't for drag queens hipsters would have now way of knowing what the next new thing would be. Once hipsters discover a phenomenon drag queens are so over it. This is when the hipsters drag it into the mainstream. Karaoke, Trivia nights, Roller Derby, Kickball hipsters have done it all and made all these venerable activities part of the 21st century mainstream.
Bingo is the new thing! Grab a craft beer a card and inkpad and you are hip!

KerPlunk
I went to a yard sale the other day it was at the home of a hoarder. One of the many things he hoarded was old board games and toys. I was instantly transported back to my childhood. As I was going through his games I found one I had always wanted. It was hands down. When I was a kid I thought is was so cool. Then I found Mousetrap yet another game I had once thought to be really fun. I went to play at a friends house one afternoon and he had Mousetrap. We played it and I was so disappointed. I continued going through his piles of games and found Mystery Date. I was very tempted to buy it but he thought some of the pieces might be missing. I then came across one of my favorite games form when I was a kid KerPlunk! I was so excited I loved KerPlunk! If you never heard of KerPlunk it was a lot of fun. The game made by Ideal Toy Company consisted of an acrylic tube with small holes in it that you would slide colored plastic sticks. Then you would drop marbles into the tube. at the bottom of the tube there was a base with numbers and a small opening. The way the game was played was the players would one by one pull out the plastic sticks and marbles would fall to the bottom of the tube in the numbered areas. at the end of the game the player with the least amount of marbles was the winner. It was loud and fun!
I was so close to buying the game but had to pass on it as i just didn't envision myself inviting people over to play KerPlunk!

Dodge Ball Banned
The town of Windham, New Hampshire' s school district has banned the gym game of dodge ball. The small southern New Hampshire town's school board decided to remove dodge ball as well as several other human target games from their curriculum to alleviate bullying.
Dodge ball is one of the cruelest of all playground games and it should be banned. The idea of human targets is fairly mean on its own but the game also targets slow kids, fat kids and acts as a way for aggressive bullies to get away with it and be lauded for their actions.
"We spend a lot of time making sure our kids are violence free," Windham superintendent Dr. Henry LaBranche said. "Here we have games where we use children as targets. That seems to be counter to what we are trying to accomplish with our anti-bullying campaign."
Games like this don't actually give kids exercise it give them anxiety and a lot of time watching other kids play. It is the exercise that is important not the winning and losing. Yes win and losing is part of life and kids need to learn to lose but they don't need to learn winning by picking off other kids one by one.

The Price is Rude
The long running game show "The Price is Right" just celebrated its 40th anniversary. Bob Barker the host for 35 of those 40 years wasn't asked to be involved with the show. The show included past participants and winners but not the long time host. They did show clips of him but he was not invited to attend the taping which is shot oddly enough in the Bob Barker Studio at CBS. Bob Barker has long been a supporter of PETA and has donated millions of dollars to animal rights causes. He closed every show with a plea to spay and neuter pets.
Bob Barker is the longest running host of any game show. Mr Barker was also the first TV host to not dye his hair but to let it go white. In the 1990's Bob Barker and the "Price is Right" were sued by a handful of models and female production staff for wrongful termination and sexual harrassment.
It still would have been nice to invite Bob Barker to attend the taping of the anniversary show. When asked about his exclusion Bob Barker said he was "fine" with it.
