They Ran With The Flock Of Seagulls Stuff

The 1980's new wave hair band The Flock of Seagulls have been robbed! The English band on a tour of small cities in the US parked their 1990's white for van in the parking lot of a Comfort Inn in Downey a suburb of Los Angeles where it was pinched. They band went out to the parking lot in the morning after playing a show in nearby Bellflower to head to their next show in Woodland Hills in the San Fernando valley when they discovered their van was gone. In the van was $70,000 worth of equipment and the master tapes for an upcoming solo record by the bands lead singer Mike Score.
The theft was reported to the Downy police and Comfort Inn security tapes were looked at. On the tapes a car is seen pulling up by the van a man hopping out and then driving away in The Flock of Seagull's van.
The band was able to perform the next show in Woodland Hills with rented equipment. In the van was the bands equipment and stage clothing along with the tapes that Score had been working for the past 18 months with to release a solo record. The Flock of Seagulls had a huge hit in the 1980's with the song "I Ran".

Now Howard the Duck and Mr Stress Both Stayed

Thirty-five years ago Chrissie Hynde, Pete Farndon, John Honeyman-Scott and Martin Chambers got together and formed The Pretenders. First playing together in 1978 The Pretenders got their name from The Platters song "The Great Pretender".
The Band has gone through many changes with the deaths of Farndon and Honeyman-Scott and Chambers leaving briefly but Chrissie Hynde has kept it together for thirty-five years releasing 10 full length albums and several EP's.
Their first three records were huge sellers but the band had a dry spell for about twenty years. Their last record Break "Up the Concrete" was their first record to break into the top forty since the 1984 record "Learning to Crawl".
The current line up does still tour often playing shows with bands of the eighties like Blondie and The B52's. The Pretenders now mainly play one off shows.

Bagboy

It has been nearly ten years since the Pixies released any new material but today that has changed. "Bagboy" was released today on the bands website. The good news for Pixies fans is Kim Deal is on the recording even though just weeks ago she said she would no longer be with the band. Bagboy has that gnawing Pixies sound with lead vocals by Black Francis and backing vocals by Kim Deal. What would a Pixies song be without Kim Deal?
Will there be more soon?????

The Human Metronome

Alan Myers the drummer for the band Devo has died in Los Angeles. Myers died of brain cancer on June 25th. he was 58 years old. Alan Myers joined the band when they were still a local band from Akron, Ohio in 1976. He played with the band during their most successful period until 1985. His drumming was integral to Devo's mechanical sound that top charts with songs like "Whip It" Myers was called the human metronome and Gerald Casale said "People who saw thought he was using a drum machine.... No ever drummed like that"

Creature from the Black Leather Lagoon

It is getting near Halloween. Halloween and The Cramps went together hand in hand. It is this time of year when I start to miss Lux Interior and The Cramps. My heat goes out to the widow Ivy. Lux and Poison Ivy were a Rock-a-billy Halloween show all year round for decades.

"The Creature From the Black Leather Lagoon" is my all time favorite Cramps song. It is Halloween for the new millennium.
Better ask my momma how to make a monster...
I'm the creature from the black leather lagoon,
I'm a beautiful monster from outer space,
Too, learned how to shake my hips in the inner sanctum, satan gave me tips and then i thanked him,
I'm the creature from the black leather lagoon
Black black, black black leather, smash smash,
Black black leather, kill kill, black black leather, crash crash, black black leather,
I'm the creature from the black leather lagoon i'm a chicken-fried fire-eatin' son of a gun,
Concieved by my devil daddy on a chicken run, like a fireball flyin' down thunder road,
Daddy made mama but she shoulda said no,
I'm the raw hyde monster they named number 1 i'm the creature from the black leather lagoon,
I'm a genuine juvenille delinquent from the moon,
I'm like a hundred billion hydrogen bombs,
Mama wanted a goat, but i got mom's,
I'm the creature from the black leather lagoon

They Got the Beat, The Gay Gays

No band is more fun than the Go-Go's except possibly the Gay-Gay's. Yes, they are an all gay male Go-Go's tribute band and a hell of a lot of fun. Almost as old, fat and campy as the Go-Go's themselves the Gay-Gay's put on quite a show! Coming out on stage in terry cloth robes and towels wrapped turban style on their heads the band picked up their instruments and proceed to rock! It took mere seconds for the robes and turbans to go so the band can let loose with their covers of all the songs in album order from "Beauty and the Beat's" a-side. With a little hilarious chat they "flip the record" and off they go onto the b-side. Not only are they loads of fun the Gay Gay's are great musicians.
The show I saw was at the Los Angeles Eagle and Tramp for the Lord was the opening act. The Eagle's stage is sort of smooshed in by the bar and has a two foot "pit" in front but the Gay Gay's made the whole place fabulous. The band covered all of the Go-Go's hits ending the show with "Vacation". By the time their set was finished the band and audience was covered in sweat but it was a good sweat, the sweat that meant fun!
